Implementation and Obstacles Faced in Providing Protection for Children as Victims of Domestic Violence in Lau Gumba Village, Berastagi District, Karo Regency

Abstract

This study aims to determine the implementation and obstacles faced in providing protection for children who are victims of domestic violence in Lau Gumba Village, Berastagi District, Karo Regency. Children as a vulnerable group have the right to receive protection from all forms of violence, including violence that occurs in the household environment. This study uses a sociological legal approach, with data collection methods through field studies and interviews with related parties such as village officials, victims, families, and child protection agencies. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of protection for child victims of violence is still not optimal, due to the lack of public understanding of child protection regulations, limited resources, and lack of coordination between related institutions. In addition, local culture that tends to cover up domestic violence problems is one of the main obstacles in efforts to enforce legal protection for children. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the role of local governments, provide legal counseling to the community, and strengthen the capacity of child protection institutions so that they can carry out their functions effectively.
